The Evaluation

Question One
In what ways does the media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?.
In this module we have been looking at different films of the thriller genre. We chose the thriller we did as we thought it would create a good atmosphere towards the intended audience and the possibilities which could create suspence in our thriller. We decided to exclude are killer throughout the first scene in our opeing sequence so the audience would ask questions which links into 'The question and answer model' This makes them think about the film in different ways. The conventions we decided to follow was to add suspence to our thriller to build up tension with the audience, we also linked it to 'red herrings' making the audience think in a certain way which is leading them to think that something is gonig to happen when really there isn't its just in their thoughts. We also added flashing lights to our thriller to give off a more scary vibe, this would also set off a strange atmosphere and build suspence.

Question Two
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Within our opening sequence we chose the charactor star we did as we thought she was the right age for our film as we needed a young female to star in are film where as they are usually more vulnerable and they are usually the killers target. We also had the killer as a female to make it different to other thrillers. Nobody dies withing our opening sequence as we thought it would be to early for a death to occur. The text says about certain social groups that say for men they come across as more strong and brave unlike women as they overcome as vulnerable and scream alot when they are getting chased and dont have much power compared to a male killer who walks after them in a calm way. Are media products represents particular social groups which goes to more of a vulnerable women as our charactor is a young pretty teenager who doesnt have much power if it comes to a bad situation.

Question Three
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
In order of my film to be seen by an audience it would first need to be distributed. Film Distributions is a company which will release films and will spend around £300 million a year by releasing new films to the market and bringing interest among the audience. A film distributor may do this through theatrical exhibutorsand other sub-distibutors. It will be a written contrast. For example Film 4 is a film distributor

Question Four
Who would be the audience for your media product?
Our thriller opening sequence would target teenage boy and girls from about the age of 15 - 30. Within our film we have based it around the age of 15, looking at different certificates and discussing with each other which one would mostly link into our thriller. As our film includes dangerous and scary scenes it would appeal to are target audience as teenageres like that kind of thing, but also others who are not in the intented audience would still watch it as over 18s could still watch it as it still has the uses of threatning behaviour. Our film is certificated as a 15 as it wouldnt be to grusome or have loads of violent scence in it. There is just some dangerous and behavouril reffrences.

Question Five
How did you attract/address your audience?
Our target audience enjoyed the thriller we had produced, the main feedback was that the audience enjoyed what we did with the lighting as we had flashy, dull, and bright lights throughout the thriller. The audience didnt know what was going to happen or when so they felt as if they were sitting in the edge of their seats. When we were planning the film and making it we wanted the audience to feel the tension which was exactly what they felt when watching it, we also wanted them to feel quite confused and scared of what was going to happen, their thoughts would be getting to them as their mind would be playing tricks. I would say our completed production would be appropriate for the target audience as everyone loves a bit off violence within a film, are target audience said they were glad with the way it was put making it creepy towards some people.

Is the killer Male or Female?
The target audience asked this question as they wanted to know if it was female or male infact it was a female who was the killer making it different to other thrillers.

Question Six
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Question Seven
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Screen Grab.

As you can see from the screen grab, this software is to set up  two screens to work with which then will have a timeline of the film at the bottom saying how much mintues you have done and are there, the screen on the left is called clip spin this is used to select how long or short the shot should be and how you want it, to then import it on to the timeline with a result of what your film will be like, the screen on the left is all of the footage on your timeline, so the completed film will be done up to that point.

In this screen grab above the time line is a small purple patch which represents a title which is over a shot, in this case it is the actress's name "Jayne jones"
